ASK AN EXPERT: How do I declutter my makeup drawer?

“I recently renovated my bathroom, and it looks great and I really love it except for my makeup drawers. I thought I had created enough storage space when redesigning it for my makeup supplies, but the two drawers (which is more than I had before) I have are an absolute mess and, honestly, I don’t know how to make it work.  I have tried organizing it, but it usually lasts a week before it is back to how it was before. I look forward to hearing from you and the solutions you come […]

Great Toy Organization Solutions for your home

I wrote an article on solutions for toy organization and storage some years ago, Nanny Robina also posted it on her site. I am going to revisit this article as I think it’s a good time with everyone still having to stay at home due to the current global health crises. The fallout from the virus has meant that families are now at home all the time; working, living, playing, remote learning, cooking, exercising, and sleeping.  11 months into the pandemic and though there is light at the end of the tunnel because of the vaccine, it is tempered by the fact we are not out of […]

How To Start Decluttering

The global health crises has meant that we are all staying home and thus the clutter keeps building up in all the nooks and crannies around the house. Eventually, you will need to deal with it. How to start decluttering? It sounds such an easy thing to do, right? After all, it’s just clutter. But what exactly is decluttering? The dictionary defines it quite simply as; “To remove clutter from a room, an area, etc.” So, really all you have to do is simply remove all your clutter. Another dictionary describes decluttering as “to remove things you do not need from a place, in order to make it more […]

Small Home Office Organization

Today I am going to write about small home office organization. Covid19 has meant more people are having to work or study from home. What do you do if you don’t have a separate room for your home office? Working or studying from home is hard enough at the best of times. There are many distractions, and potentially constant interruptions from pets, family, and doorbells. As a Professional Organizer, I have helped many entrepreneurs create home offices, creating workspaces that are efficient, productive, and organized. The home office needs to look good, feel good, and be somewhere they want to sit down and work in.

Preparing For A New Dog: Filer Pet owner tips

Today we are going to examine the challenges The Filer pet owner might have in getting their home ready for a new dog. The Filer, the 4th and last Organizational Personality Type (OPT) will be the most “organized” about bringing home their new puppy. The Filer would rarely say they have clutter or need help getting organized. After all, as their namesake says, they file! Indeed a lot of their identity centres around having an organized home and being on top of things. It is only when you take a closer look that you start to see how their clutter manifests; it’s […]

Preparing For A New Dog: Spreader Pet Organizing Tips

The 3rd Organizational Personality Type is The Spreader. Of all the OPT’s, the Spreader will be the one who will have the most challenges in getting organized for a new pet. As their name states… they spread. Open a drawer in their hall table console and you will find a treasure trove of things, keys, glasses, tools, snacks, stationery, bills, etc. It is not that they don’t want to have an organized system in their home for their adorable new pet – literally, they don’t know how other people do it. Have you heard of the old saying “A place for everything […]

Preparing for a New Dog: The Piler Pet Organizing Tips

Today we are going to examine the Organizational Personality Type of the Piler Pet Owner and what their challenges might be as they organize their dog supplies. As their name suggests, they pile. Their piles are not random, the piles are not clutter either… they are organized and intentional. Pilers are not messy people, they simply don’t have a need for their organizing to appear tidy. We are going to look at why a Piler organizes in piles and what solutions will help them in decluttering and organizing for a new dog.

Unlike the Nester, with the Piler […]

What Your Clutter Says About You

I created my Organizational Personality Types (The Filer, The Piler, The Nester, and The Spreader ) system to help you determine what your organizing style and issues are, and from that place determine the kind of solutions that will work to declutter your home, and be easily maintained. Understanding your organizational challenges first, allows you to choose solutions that stick. Because my partner and I are preparing to get a new dog, I felt it would be a good idea to re-examine specifically what challenges might arise for […]

Preparing for a new dog: Nester Pet Organizing Tips

I am going to write today about  The Nester and what issues might come up for them in getting their home ready for a new puppy, dog, cat, or any pet for that matter.  Who and what is a Nester? Getting A New Pet

My beloved cat, Tadhg, and constant companion for 19 years passed away during the first week of Lockdown. My partner John and I were living in Ireland at the time. We had moved temporarily to Ireland so that I could take care of my ageing father. Tadhg came along for the journey. We travelled all over Ireland and Spain with him. He just loved getting on the road and going for an adventure.

When Tadhg passed away my world stopped, as Ireland and the rest of the world went into lockdown. There was a silence that only […]
